Endowments

Invest in the Future

What is an Endowment?

Simply, an Endowment is a long term investment into the future. While all gifts to Nicholls contribute to the high quality of educational opportunities, endowments are particularly meaningful as they offer a dependable, perpetual source of funding. The investment made with the creation of an endowment provides the type of support that makes a real difference in the lives of our students, faculty, and staff by enhancing their education, research, daily work and academic excellence.

How Endowments Work

Endowed funds differ from others in that the total amount of the gift is invested. Each year, only a portion of the income earned is spent while the remainder is added to the principal for growth.  The Nicholls Foundation will invest the funds and will use 5% of the interest earned to benefit the area of support chosen by the donor.  With this method, an endowment is a perpetual gift to Nicholls State Univeristy.

Nicholls Foundation endowments begin at $10,000, funded fully at its initiation or made as a pledge, payable over time. Also, donors may contribute any amount to an existing endowed program or pool resources with other like-minded individuals or companies to create a new endowment.

Support Your Passion, Honor Someone You Love

An advantage of creating an endowment is the freedom to choose how your investment will support Nicholls. Once you have chosen an area you would like to support, you should assess the impact you would like your gift to have. Endowments inherently bring about a profound impact because of their longevity. The perpetuity of your gift will help Nicholls sustain support in the area of your choosing.

Endowments are also an excellent way to permanently honor your family, a mentor or a loved one. Once you have created an endowment, your gift becomes part a Nicohlls tradition. In fact, loved ones may also choose to support your fund because they know how special it is to you.

Endowed Scholarships

The endowed scholarships program permits Nicholls to draw students of high academic skills, personal merit and/or financial need. Because of scholarships established by alumni and friends of the University, many students are able to attend college and graduate with undergraduate and graduate degrees.

To begin your Endowed Scholarship, please complete the following Endowed Scholarship Donation Form.

Scholarships are administered by the Nicholls Foundation and the Office of Financial Aid.

At the present time Nicholls has over 260 scholarships available to our students!

Endowed Professorships

Through the Board of Regents Support Fund, the Endowed Professorships program allows the state to match every $80,000 in private or corporate donations raised by the Nicholls Foundation with $20,000 from the support fund.  Once Professorships are endowed, the earnings from the endowment are used for salary supplements, research support, and program development activities.

Why are Endowed Professorships important to Nicholls?
Endowment Professorships provide an excellent way for Nicholls to attract and retain highly qualified faculty. Faculty who are on the cutting edge of their respective disciplines help insure that students are receiving the finest instruction possible. Furthermore, in today’s time of such uncertainty with state budgets, a known source of income that is designated to our professors is vital to the success of the university.

Currently, Nicholls has 63 endowed professorships. For a full list, please click here:
